Famous places in Raipur





Raipur is a very fascinating city in India. It has a number of landmarks and sites worth visiting. It is the capital of the Chhattisgarh. According to India's 2001 census the population of the Raipur is around 605,131. Formerly, it was part of the state of Madhaya Pradesh. Then Chhattisgarh was established in the year 2000and it became its capital. A city known as "Naya Raipur" is being developed to become a world class city near Raipur.



On the basis of the structures and forts on the southern region of Raipur, historians believe that this city existed even before the 9th century. However, there are some contradictions to this as some historians say that the city was instead established in the late 14th century by King Brahmadeva Rai.



The city of Raipur is situated near the center of a huge Indian plains often called as "the rice bowl of India" because it is a place where there are more than hundred varieties of rice found. On the northwestern side of Raipur are the Maikal Hills, and in the northern area is the land known as the Chota Nagpur Plateau, which extends up to the northeastern area near the Jharkhand state. On the southern edge of the city is the Baster Plateau.



Raipur has basically subtropical climate. The summers start from March and extend up to June. During summer, the temperature is really hot and humid. Raipur gets an estimated 1,300 millimeters of rain. The rainy season begins in the late days of June and ends in the first two weeks of October. The winters begin in November and extend up to January. During winter, the temperature is mild but at times the temperature can be as low as 5 degrees Celsius or 42 degrees Fahrenheit.

Elibandha Talab is a lake which is located on the GE Road. It is also a place where most of the religious rites of Hindus are carried out. The Civil Lines is the city's highest security zone where most of the IAS officers and Indian government officials stay. Hotel Babylon is a 5 star hotel and is possibly the best hotel in the city.



Shankar Nagar and "Avanti Vihar" are the posh colonies of the city. Mahant Ghasi Das Memorial Museum has an enormous collection of images, sculptures, inscriptions, and coins.



The Shaheed Smarak Complex is an extremely amazing architectural masterpiece.



Champaran is a town which is 37 miles or 60 kilometers away from the city of Raipur. It has a religious significance as it is the birthplace of Saint Vallabha Acharya. Champaran also has a historical significance, as it is a place where poor farmers were formerly badly treated by the British colonizers. A lot of Hindus soon revolted to stop this injustice.
